The late Mr Baster was a well-known figure in South Melbourne circles. He lived in Albert Park where he carried on a business for many years. He claimed to have been a resident of Canvas Town, and for a while was a useful member of the South Melbourne Council. He was a life member of the S.M.C.C., and never ceased to interest himself in S.M. activities. He removed to Elwood when he retired from active business about five years ago. He leaves behind a widow and a grown up family, including Mrs L G Turnley, principal of L G Turnley & Co.; Mrs D Bradshaw, Misses Daisy and Ida, and Messrs. Charles and Ernest Baster. At the S.M. Council on Wednesday night the Mayor referred feelingly to the death of ex. Cr. Baster and moved a motion of condolence, which was carried in silence."
James married Rose COX. (Rose COX was born about 1855 235, died in 1938 in Melbourne, Australia 235 and was buried in Fawkner Cemetery, Melbourne, Australia 235.)
